What Is Puffer (PUFFER)? Restaking, Governance and Token Utility
What is Puffer?
Puffer builds Ethereum infrastructure spanning liquid restaking, rollups and transaction preconfirmations. Its liquid restaking protocol connects ETH staking with EigenLayer. PUFFER is the ecosystem governance token; pufETH is a separate token associated with deposits into the liquid restaking protocol. Understanding that distinction is the starting point for evaluating the project. Puffer documentation introduces the product families.
Why PUFFER is on the watchlist
At the October 16, 2026 research snapshot, OrangeX's homepage gainers panel displayed PUFFER/USDT at 0.05323 USDT, up 339.92% over its displayed comparison period. This is a point-in-time observation, not an explanation for the move. The panel alone cannot establish whether news, positioning or temporary liquidity caused the change. Check the current market before using any quoted figure.
PUFFER and pufETH have different roles
The liquid restaking introduction describes pufETH as the token received by ETH depositors. Its economics relate to assets and rewards within the staking system. Buying PUFFER on an exchange does not itself deposit ETH, create pufETH or enroll a holder in an ETH staking position.
A token ticker can therefore hide very different exposures. A governance token's market price and a liquid restaking token's redemption economics should be analyzed separately. Neither should be treated as a guaranteed claim to a fixed yield.
How governance locking works
The official PUFFER application describes staking and locking PUFFER to obtain vlPUFFER voting power. Holders can use that voting power to direct incentives or delegate it. The interface also describes CARROT rewards and community airdrops. Participation terms, lock duration and available rewards must be checked in the live application; they are not a fixed return promised to every exchange holder.
What to examine beyond the token price
Useful research separates product demand from token demand. Examine which services have users, how fees flow, which governance decisions holders can influence and when locked tokens become liquid. Project adoption can be relevant without translating mechanically into a token price increase. Promotional reward figures should be assessed alongside the token's own price risk.
Trading PUFFER on OrangeX
The PUFFER/USDT spot page provides the current order book and trading interface. Review the spread, available depth and order size before choosing an order type. A limit order controls the maximum buying price or minimum selling price but may remain unfilled. A market order prioritizes execution and can experience slippage, especially during a large move.
Main risks and practical takeaway
Restaking introduces smart contract, validator and slashing exposure, while exits can depend on protocol conditions and secondary-market liquidity. Governance locking adds restrictions on access to tokens. An exchange-held PUFFER position also carries ordinary market and custody risks. Review the exact product being used and the obligations attached to it rather than treating every Puffer asset as interchangeable.
