HKMA Adds 24/7 Tokenised Settlement to EnsembleTX Pilot
Hong Kong’s EnsembleTX pilot now supports 24/7 interbank settlement in tokenised central bank money. The HKMA reports 12 participating banks and 20 industry pioneers.
The Hong Kong Monetary Authority announced on November 2 that EnsembleTX, the pilot phase of Project Ensemble, now supports round-the-clock interbank settlement of tokenised deposit transactions in tokenised central bank money. The pilot has expanded to 12 participating banks and 20 industry pioneers. This extends settlement beyond conventional operating hours within the pilot’s scope.

How the pilot has changed
EnsembleTX launched in November 2025 and initially used the Hong Kong dollar Real Time Gross Settlement system for interbank settlement. Its controlled environment supports real-value transactions, including corporate treasury management and tokenised money market fund transactions. The new capability concerns participating institutions; it should not be read as universal retail access or a general stablecoin rollout.
OrangeX.com Analysis
Our assessment is that longer settlement availability could reduce timing gaps between tokenised transactions and the interbank payment leg. Availability alone does not establish transaction volumes, cost savings or broad adoption. The next evidence to watch is practical usage, operating resilience and how participants manage liquidity outside traditional banking hours.
