What Is Options Trading? Does OrangeX Support It?
Updated on 2026/07/09
Options trading is a type of derivatives trading that gives traders the right, but not the obligation, to buy or sell an asset at a predetermined price before or on a specified expiration date. Compared with spot trading, options are more flexible and are commonly used for hedging risk, generating income, or speculating on market movements.
There are two main types of options:
- Call Options: Give the buyer the right to buy an asset at a fixed price.
- Put Options: Give the buyer the right to sell an asset at a fixed price.
Unlike perpetual futures, options have an expiration date, and buyers pay a premium to acquire the contract. If market conditions are unfavorable, the maximum loss for an option buyer is generally limited to the premium paid.
