Japan September CPI Rises 2.1%; Measure Excluding Fresh Food and Energy Gains 2.4%
Japan’s October 23 release reports three national CPI measures on a 2025 base; the inflation figures alone do not establish a Bank of Japan decision.
Japan’s Statistics Bureau reported on October 23, 2026 that the national consumer price index for September rose 2.1% from a year earlier. The all-items index stood at 102.2 on a 2025=100 base. Follow OrangeX.com Markets.
Three measures, different baskets
The index excluding fresh food also rose 2.1% year over year, reaching 102.3. Excluding both fresh food and energy, the index increased 2.4% to 102.8. These are separate baskets: removing fresh food does not also remove energy.
The percentages describe changes from September 2025, while the index levels use the 2025 base. A level of 102.2 is not a 102.2% inflation rate. The release concerns national September prices, rather than an October Tokyo advance estimate. More reporting is available in OrangeX.com News.

For digital-asset readers tracking Japanese monetary conditions, the distinction between these measures matters when comparing inflation reports. The data release itself does not announce a Bank of Japan rate decision or prove a direction for the yen, Bitcoin or wider crypto prices.
